Your adventure begins in the vibrant capital of Colombo before heading northwest to the awe-inspiring Adam’s Bridge (Rama Setu) in Mannar, a site steeped in ancient mythology. You will marvel at the coastal grandeur of the sacred Thirukoneswaram Temple in Trincomalee, ascend the monumental Sigiriya Rock Fortress, and witness the cultural heartbeat of Kandy. The tour sweeps through the misty, tea-carpeted highlands of Nuwara Eliya and Ella before concluding on the historic, sun-drenched cobblestones of Galle Fort, offering an unforgettable blend of myth, devotion, and natural wonder.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Colombo

  • Arrive in Colombo: Transfer to your hotel.
  • Explore Colombo: Visit the Gangaramaya Temple and enjoy a welcome dinner.
  • Overnight: Colombo.

Day 2: Colombo to Mannar (Adam's Bridge)

  • Drive to Trincomalee: Visit the Thirukoneswaram Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and offering stunning coastal views.
  • Explore the area: Visit the nearby Fort Frederick and beautiful eastern beaches.
  • Overnight: Trincomalee.

Day 3: Mannar to Thirukoneswaram Temple

  • Visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Afternoon jeep safari at Minneriya National Park to see elephants and other wildlife.

Day 4: Thirukoneswaram to Sigiriya

  • Travel to Sigiriya: Drive to the Cultural Triangle (approx. 3-4 hours).
  • Visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress: Explore the UNESCO World Heritage site and its ancient frescoes.
  • Evening leisure: Relax and enjoy the views of the surrounding area.
  • Overnight: Sigiriya/Dambulla area.

Day 5: Sigiriya to Kandy

  • Visit Dambulla Cave Temple: En route to Kandy, explore this UNESCO site filled with ancient Buddhist art and statues.
  • Travel to Kandy: Arrive in Kandy and visit the Temple of the Tooth, a highly significant Buddhist site.

  • Overnight: Kandy.

Day 6: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

  • Drive to Nuwara Eliya: Stop at rolling tea plantations and working tea factories along the way.

  • Overnight: Nuwara Eliya.

Day 7: Nuwara Eliya to Ella

  • Visit Nine Arches Bridge: Take photos at this iconic, colonial-era railway bridge.
  • Hike Little Adam’s Peak: Enjoy stunning, panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
  • Overnight: Ella.

Day 8: Ella to Galle

  • Travel to Galle: Drive down to the southern coast (approx. 5-6 hours).
  • Explore Galle Fort: Visit this UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its well-preserved colonial architecture and deep history.
  • Evening at the beach: Relax at one of Galle’s beautiful nearby beaches.
  • Overnight: Galle/Unawatuna area.

Day 9: Departure

  • Visit local markets or beaches: Enjoy a leisurely morning in Galle.
  • Drive to Colombo: Return to the capital (approx. 2-3 hours).
  • Departure: Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Additional tips

  • Modest clothing (shoulders and knees covered) is strictly required for all temples.
  • Slip-on shoes are recommended, as they must be removed at sacred sites.
  • Warm layers (sweater or light jacket) are necessary for the chilly evenings in Nuwara Eliya and Ella.
  • Comfortable walking shoes for climbing Sigiriya and hiking in Ella.
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) for coastal and historical exploration.
