About This Trip

Embark on a dynamic 9-day journey that captures the full spectrum of Sri Lanka’s charm. This tour sweeps you from the bustling streets of Colombo to the spiritual heart of Kandy. You will journey through the scenic, tea-carpeted hills of Ella before unwinding for three blissful days on the tranquil, coral-fringed beaches of Passikudah. The adventure peaks with an exhilarating leopard safari in Yala National Park, winding down with a stroll through the cobbled streets of the historic Galle Fort before your final sunset on the coastal shores of Negombo.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Colombo

  • Arrive at Colombo International Airport and transfer to your hotel.
  • Explore Colombo’s attractions, including the Gangaramaya Temple, Independence Square, and local shopping areas.
  • Overnight: Colombo.

Day 2: The Sacred Hill Capital

  • Travel to Kandy (approx. 3-4 hours’ drive).
  • Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a highly revered site in Buddhism.
  • Explore the serene Kandy Lake and its surroundings.
  • Overnight: Kandy.

Day 3: Journey to the Highlands

  • Travel to Ella via a scenic train ride or by road (approx. 6-7 hours).
  • Enjoy stunning views of lush tea plantations and waterfalls.
  • Visit the iconic Nine Arches Bridge and hike to Ella Rock for panoramic views.
  • Overnight: Ella.

Days 4, 5 & 6: East Coast Beach Bliss

  • Travel to Passikudah on the east coast (approx. 5-6 hours’ drive).
  • Spend three days relaxing on the pristine beaches, famous for their shallow waters and vibrant coral reefs.
  • Overnight: Passikudah.

Day 7: Into the Wild

  • Travel south to Yala (approx. 3-4 hours’ drive).
  • Embark on an afternoon Jeep safari at Yala National Park, renowned for its leopard population and diverse wildlife.
  • Overnight: Near Yala National Park.

Day 8: Heritage Fort to Coastal Sunsets

  • Optional: Early morning safari at Yala National Park.
  • Travel to Galle (approx. 3-4 hours’ drive) and explore the UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort and its charming colonial streets.
  • Continue up the coast to Negombo (approx. 3-4 hours’ drive).
  • Overnight: Negombo.

Day 9: Departure

  • Depending on your flight time, explore Negombo beach or local markets.
  • Transfer to Colombo International Airport for your departure.

Additional tips

  • Swimwear & sunscreen for Passikudah’s beaches.
  • Warm layers for the cooler climate in Ella.
  • Modest attire (shoulders/knees covered) for temples.
  • Comfortable walking shoes for Ella Rock and Galle Fort.
  • Camera & binoculars for the Yala safari.
